All injections performed at our clinic use ultrasound guidance to ensure precision and accuracy.

Both ultrasound and x-ray from the last 6 months of the affected site and pain clinic requisition form will be required to successfully book an appointment.

Patient Information

Before appointment day:
  • Do not obtain any vaccines 7 days before injection. If any vaccines are obtained within the 7-day time frame before your appointment contact Clear Medical Imaging to reschedule.
  • Recent ultrasound and x-ray, from within the past 6 months of the affected site will be required prior to receiving the injection. Patient questionnaire should be received when imaging is being obtained at any Clear Medical Imaging location.
Day of appointment:
  • Please bring valid health card to your appointment
  • Pick up prescription from pharmacy on the first floor of the TMC building; charges will vary depending on insurance coverage.
  • Arrive to appointment (Suite 203) 15 minutes early with patient questionnaire filled out. If patient questionnaire is not received prior to appointment day, please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow time for questionnaire to be completed.
  • Do not obtain any vaccines 7 days following cortisone injection. If vaccine appointments are scheduled within this time frame, please reschedule vaccine appointment or contact Clear Medical Imaging to reschedule steroid injection.

Joint Injection Discharge Instructions

  1. You may experience pain or soreness at the injection site. You may apply ice packs to the injection site for no more than 20 minutes at a time. You may remove the bandage over the injection site after 12 hours post injection. You may shower after your bandage is removed. No submerging in water (bathtub, swimming pool, hot tub etc.) for 24 hours after procedure.
  2. A very small percentage of patients may experience an increase in their usual pain for 2 to 3 days following procedure. If this increase in pain persists past 3 days, please call us at (519) 256-4914 Ext.224.
  3. You may resume taking any medications you stopped prior to the procedure. Please allow up to 10 days for injections to start working. Most patients state they start to feel a benefit after 2 – 4 days.
  4. You may continue your regular diet.
  5. If you are diabetic, the steroids may temporarily increase you blood sugar levels. If this occurs, please notify your Primary Care Provider. Your diabetes medication may need to be adjusted. Call your Primary Care Provider if you are concerned with your blood sugar for further instructions.
  6. You may resume your normal activities but avoid strenuous exercise for 7 days post injection. It is important to keep your body moving.
  7. Steroid side effects may include facial flushing, water retention, headache, insomnia, and restlessness. These side effects are usually mild and short in duration, rarely lasting beyond one or two weeks.
  8. All prescription pain medications should be obtained from your Primary Care Provider.
  9. Please call your Primary Care Provider if you develop any of the following symptoms: REDNESS or HEAT AT THE INJECTION SITE, OR FEVER.
 ** If you have any of the above symptoms and you are unable to reach your primary care provider, please go to the nearest emergency room. **
